Enterprise Action Week is a fun-filled and exciting week of events, competitions, presentations and workshops that will give you lots of opportunities to show your creative, innovative and enterprising skills! There is something for everyone…….

Monday 14th November 

  • Why do employers need enterprising graduates? Find out from employers what they really value in graduates and hear from SHU graduates who have landed fantastic jobs just because they got involved in enterprising activities whilst at University.

Tuesday 15 November 

  • How to demonstrate you enterprising skills in your CV Showcase your enterprising skills and stand out from the competition! Top tips on how to use your enterprising activities and experiences to help you get that all important first job.

Wednesday 16th November

  • Ideas Generation Team Competition Use your innovative and great problem solving skills to turn an idea into a viable concept or product in just 9 hours (10am - 7pm)! Lots of fun is guaranteed and lunch and refreshments are provided! One of our recent award winning SHU graduate entrepreneurs (The Great Escape) will be providing the brief. Please note: This is great practice for those of you who will be involved in graduate recruitment assessment centre activities over the next few months.

Thursday 17th November

  • Bootcamp: Explore and develop your enterprising skills This is an interactive half day workshop that will test your innovative and enterprising skills. Understand the importance of team work and communication for coming up with creative and innovative solutions to problems. These are skills that all employers look for when recruiting graduates. Demonstrate your intrapreneurial skills!

  • Pizza Pitch: Win a £50 Pizza Express voucher! Good pitch/presentation skills are essential today in the world of work. Whether you are pitching as part of a job interview, presenting on behalf of the company you work for or pitching for funding for your own business, you will need to be engaging and persuasive in your delivery. This competition will give you the opportunity to try out these skills on your friends as well as to a wider audience. The audience vote will decide the winner! Pizza is also provided on the night, so come along and join us.

Monday 14th November

  • Placement Year Enterprise Scholarship (PYES) Do something different with your placement year! If you have an idea for a commercial or social enterprise venture - anything from dog walking to IT/Digital consulting (and anything in between), then why not come along to this session and hear from those who are currently on the scholarship programme and find out more about how the Enterprise Team can support you.

Tuesday 15 November

  • Start-Up Workshop A must for anyone who wants to be self-employed (includes: market research and business planning)
  • International students (Tier 1 Graduate Visa) Are you an international student who is keen to develop a business idea in the UK once you have graduated? Then make sure that you book on to this workshop. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the Tier 1 Graduate Visa application process and begin exploring your business idea.
  • 1, 2, 3….Go! A tale of three women in business Come and be inspired by three recent SHU female graduates who are all in the first three years of developing their successful businesses. Boys are welcome too!

Wednesday 16th November 

  • Be your own boss! SHU graduates will give you a fascinating insight in to what it is like to be your own boss - the highs, the lows, challenges and the excitement!
  • Enterprise Info Session Come to one of our and find out about all the self-employment support the Enterprise Team can offer to you.

  • The art of crowdfunding Whether you want to raise money for your final year exhibition, your preferred charity or to kick start your business idea; crowdfunding is the way to go! Come along to this session to get some top tips on how to crowdfund well, and hear from those who have already been successful.

Friday 18th November

  • Hallam Freelancers - paid part-time freelance work Would you like to find paid work which will allow you to develop your specific career sector skills? The why not come along to this session and find out more and how to get started!
