My name is Caitlin Diamond and I am currently in my second year of studying a degree in LLB Law.

Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to spend a day at Linklaters after being chosen by my tutors.

The day I spent there began with an introduction to the other 10 students from universities across the country and some information about the firm itself.

Linklaters is a Magic Circle firm based in London. Focusing on corporate law, Linklaters take pride in building universal relationships with large companies and financial institutions and promote the concept of diversity in legal practice.

We were then delivered a presentation by a member of the HR team about the importance of self-promotion and communication in an interview setting. After this, we played a type of bingo where we had to learn various facts about the other students to get a ‘full house’.

This icebreaker activity was followed by us being given a list of interview questions, some were ones which are actually asked in the interview process at Linklaters itself. These included questions such as ‘what are your biggest strengths and biggest weaknesses?’ and ‘describe a scenario in which you’ve had to solve problems or be a team leader.’

I was then fortunate enough to have a one-to-one session with a member of the HR team who assists in meetings with clients. He asked me some of the interview questions on the list, and helped me tailor my answers to them to make me sound professional to a potential employer.

All students were asked to bring a copy of their updated legal CV for help improving it in the one-to-one session. The member of the HR team, Matthew, helped re-word parts of my CV and re-order particular experiences and skills to make it immediately appealing to the reader.

I must say I found this extremely helpful and feel as though in the future I will be able to conduct adequate research on the firm/chambers I wish to work at and tailor my CV and interview preparation to this.

After a tour of Linklaters, (which is so large it has its own doctors surgery, gym, 6 restaurants and dental practice) I was amazed by not only its size, but clear commitment to all who visit, both clients and students like myself attending their workshops. On the whole, the experience was truly valuable.
